Obtainr

Terms of Service

Last updated: 12 August 2026 · Home · Privacy Policy · Support

These terms cover your use of Obtainr, a web application and companion service that contacts people on your behalf to request documents and information (“Obtainr”, “we”, “us”). By installing the extension or creating an account, you agree to them. If you do not agree, do not use Obtainr.

1. What Obtainr does

You set up a “chase”: who to contact, what you are requesting, and what a satisfactory reply must contain. Obtainr then drafts messages, sends them from a mailbox you have connected, follows up according to the settings you choose, and checks replies against your stated requirements. It also provides a link recipients can use to upload documents or supply details without needing an account.

2. Your account

3. You are the sender

This is the most important term here. Obtainr sends messages from your mailbox, in your name. Every message it sends is your communication, not ours. You are responsible for who is contacted, what is asked of them, and how often.

You agree that you will:

Where you use Obtainr to obtain other people’s personal data, you are the controller of that data and we act as your processor in providing the service.

4. Connected accounts and your own keys

Obtainr works with credentials you supply: your mailbox (Gmail or Outlook) and your own AI provider API key. You are responsible for any charges your AI provider bills you for usage generated through Obtainr, and for staying within that provider’s limits. You can disconnect any connection at any time from the app’s settings.

5. AI-generated content

Message drafts and reply assessments are produced by a large language model. They can be wrong. A reply may be marked as satisfying your requirements when it does not, or flagged as unsatisfactory when it is fine, and drafted messages may contain mistakes.

You are responsible for reviewing what is sent and for checking anything that matters before you rely on it. If that matters to your use case, use approval mode so that nothing goes out without your approval. Do not rely on Obtainr’s verification as a substitute for checking a document yourself where the consequences of an error are significant.

6. Limits on what we read automatically

Automated checking reads part of what arrives, not all of it. The limits below apply to what is passed to the AI model — not to what we accept or store. A document that exceeds them is still received, still kept with the chase, and still available for you to open and read in full.

Where a limit means something was not read, we do not treat it as missing. The chase is held for you to review rather than being marked as unsatisfied, so that a limit never causes someone to be chased for a document they have already sent. You should still check anything that matters yourself, as described in section 5.

These limits exist so that automated checking has a predictable cost and cannot be exhausted by a single sender. We may change them as the service develops; the current values are always the ones published here.

7. Availability

Obtainr is in active development and is provided as-is. We do not promise any particular uptime, and features may change or be withdrawn. A chase may fail to send or fail to detect a reply — for example if a connected account’s access expires, a provider is unavailable, or a usage limit is reached. Do not use Obtainr as the sole mechanism for anything time-critical.

8. Your content

You keep all rights to the content you put into Obtainr and to what recipients send back. You grant us only the permission needed to run the service for you: to store that content, and to transmit it to the mailbox and AI providers you have connected, for the purposes described in the privacy policy. We do not use your content to train models.

9. Acceptable use

You must not use Obtainr to:

We may suspend or terminate an account that breaches these terms.

10. Emails we send you

As part of providing the service we email you about your own account: when a chase has stopped and needs you, a daily summary of what has arrived, and when a project finishes. You can turn any of those off in Settings → Notifications. Emails about payments, your subscription, security, and confirmation that an account has been deleted cannot be turned off, because they are how you find out that money or data has moved. These are service messages, not marketing.

11. Ending your use

You can stop using Obtainr at any time, disconnect your connected accounts, and delete your chases.

You can also delete your account yourself, in Settings → Privacy. Deleting your account is immediate and irreversible. It erases every chase, message, and uploaded document we hold for you; stops every chase in progress; makes upload links you have already sent stop working; and cancels your subscription straight away. The remainder of a paid period is not refunded. We ask you to type your email address to confirm because none of it can be undone.

We may discontinue the service, in which case we will give reasonable notice where we can.

12. Liability

Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law, including for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud.

Subject to that, Obtainr is provided without warranties of any kind, and we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, lost profits, lost business, or loss of data, or for the consequences of a message Obtainr sent on your behalf or of an assessment it made about a reply.

13. Changes

We may update these terms. Material changes will be reflected here with a new “last updated” date, and continued use after that means you accept the revised terms.

14. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have exclusive jurisdiction.
