What Obtainr doesn't do
Most software makes you find this out after you've bought it. Here it is on a page of its own, kept current.
Chasing silence is off until you switch it on
Obtainr can now follow up when a recipient says nothing at all — you pick the wait when you start a chase, from 3 hours, 24 hours, 48 hours or a week. But it is off by default, and a chase started without choosing an interval will sit and wait exactly as it always did. If you expected silence chasing to happen automatically, it won't, and this is the setting to look for.
Two further limits worth knowing. Follow-ups only leave between 8am and 6pm on weekdays, so a 3-hour wait set at five in the afternoon actually fires the next morning — they go out from your mailbox with your name on them, and we would rather be an hour late than wake your client's client at 2am. And UK bank holidays aren't modelled, so a follow-up can land on one.
WhatsApp is connectable but not used for sending
You can connect a WhatsApp Business account in settings. Chasing is email-only at the moment — Obtainr does not send or receive WhatsApp messages. Every chase goes out by email from your connected Gmail or Outlook mailbox.
A group of chases has no status of its own
You can ask several people for the same thing in one go — set a chase up as normal, then add the others by pasting their names and email addresses. What you get is one row in the chase list that opens to show each person. What you don't get is a group that behaves like a single thing. There is no combined “batch complete”, no group progress to report to anyone, and no way to close a group while chases inside it are still running. Each person's chase finishes on its own, because in practice you act on the two who haven't replied, not on the group.
Everyone in a group is asked the same thing: the requirements are copied from the chase you started with. If one person needs something extra, that is a separate chase. Once the first email in a group has gone out those requirements are fixed — you can keep adding people, but you cannot change what the group is being asked for, because that would leave people under one heading having been asked different things.
You can add up to 200 people at a time. And a group runs person by person: everyone is chased on their own terms, including the silence interval, so the ones who say nothing are treated exactly as a single recipient would be.
It does not change what a chase costs. Ten people is ten chases, exactly as it is when you set them up one at a time.
It is early, and there is barely any usage yet
Obtainr is new and almost nobody has used it. The chases run so far were our own, during testing, and those accounts have since been cleared — so there is no live production tally to quote at you. When there is one worth reading it will be on this site with its sample size at the top, as the outcomes page already does.
There are no customer logos and no testimonials here because there are none to show. If you are weighing Obtainr up, weigh the thing rather than the crowd around it: start a trial, chase somebody real, and see what comes back.
It does not read your mailbox
Obtainr asks Gmail and Outlook for permission to send, and nothing else. It cannot open your inbox and it does not look at mail it did not send. Replies reach it because every chase carries its own reply-to address, so an answer comes back to Obtainr directly rather than being read out of your mail.
There is a consequence worth knowing. If a recipient starts a brand-new email to you instead of replying to the chase, Obtainr will not see it — it is watching for answers to its own messages, not for everything that lands in your inbox.
It does not make a compliance decision for you
Obtainr checks a reply against the requirements you wrote. It tells you the certified ID arrived and the third bank statement didn't. It is not an identity-verification service, it does not perform AML checks, and it does not decide whether a document satisfies a regulatory obligation. That judgement stays with you.
If something here is out of date, it's a bug in this page. It's maintained alongside the product, not written once for launch.
